Elements in Astrology

These are Astrology basics- if you want to study Natal Chart or just your Sun Sign, this will help you understand how astrology works.
All the Zodiac Signs are divided in four groups, and every group is assigned one element. Every sign in a group has temperament very similar to other three.
Fire, Earth, Air, Water.
Everything that exists is composed of these characteristics, and every astrological sign manifests one of them as well.

You’ll notice in the above figure that the elements in each of the signs form a triangle;
that’s one of the reasons they’re called the triplicities (the other reason is that
there are three signs for each element). And signs that share an element share certain
characteristics, depending on what that element is.

The descriptions of the elements are reflected in our language.

Fire signs: Aries, Leo and Sagittarius

and the 1st, 5th and 9th house

Fire is literally hot, radiant, volatile, expansive and explosive. All these words can be used to describe a person with an emphasis of planets in Fire signs.
These signs are fiery, ardent, enthusiastic, spontaneous, self-sufficient and romantic.
Misused, they can be bossy and too forceful.
If you remember that fire is first, it may help you to remember that fire signs are very active, stimulating creative expression, and always passionate.

Air signs: Gemini, Libra and Aquarius

 the 3rd, 7th and 11th house

Air can be breezy, draughty, dry or stale, words which can be used to describe a person with an emphasis of planets in Air signs. They might be "a breath of fresh air" or "full of hot air" (a combination of Fire and Air) or have a "dry sense of humor".
These signs can communicate well; they tend to be intellectual, and they are able to handle abstract reasoning. They are logical, broadminded, objective, idealistic and unprejudiced.
Misused, they can be cold and impractical.
People with air signs operate on a mental plane, through air, so to speak, which may help you to remember what air signs are like.

Earth signs: Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn 

and the 2nd, 6th and 10th house

The element of Earth is literally tangible, solid, stable, dependable, reliable, supportive, heavy and concrete. And these are the same words we might use to describe a person with an emphasis of
planets in Earth signs. We might even say that they are "wellgrounded" or have the 1. r «rce et on the ground " or are "do down-to-earth". Equally, in birth charts where the Earth element is weak or absent, we might be tempted to suggest that they "get real" or tha t th ey are "unearthed "
These signs are practical, earthy, dependable, conservative and sensual. They love material comforts and have good recuperative powers.
Misused, they can be dull and too materialistic.
Think of earth signs as down to earth and you also will remember their characteristics.

Water signs: Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces 

and the 4th, 8th and 12th house

Water is wet, fluid, flowing, dissolving, flooding, dripping, stormy, supportive and healing, all words which describe a person with an emphasis of planets in Water signs. They might be described as "a drip" or "wet" or "fluid".
These signs are feeling, sustaining and receptive. They are emotional, intuitive, responsive, sensitive and deep. They tend to be susceptible to moods, and are easily influenced by the environment.
Remember that water is found in three forms: liquid (water), frozen (ice) and gaseous (steam). Cancer is the liquid form; Scorpio is the frozen form, and Pisces is the gaseous form.
Cancer represents the lake, Scorpio represents the river, and Pisces represents the
ocean.
Misused, these signs can be self-indulgent, self-pitying and
wavering.
If you think of water as emotion, you will remember the characteristics of water signs.

TASK: For the beginning, think about your Sun Sign's element. When you discover someone's Sun Sign, you can now think about him as a Fire, Air, Water or Earth. Sometimes it explains a person in great depth!
